February 18th, 2010 Linda Robison No comments

Boils can be quite a real pain – literally! If you’ve ever had a boil, you probably know how painful they are and how hard they tend to be to treat. Short of a doctor’s visit boils tend to be extremely hard to get rid of. And regrettably, some people appear to be more prone to boils than others.

The largest Mistake Boil Sufferers Make

A boil is a really just an infection and ought to be treated as quickly as possible to avoid infection and prevent it from spreading. When the infection begins to spread, natural treatments may not work…actually many people may require antibiotics to treat the infection. Therefore the biggest mistake you can make is to do nothing and simply hope it disappears altogether.

Photos and Pictures of Boils

Boils frequently appear just like acne having a white/yellow middle that is filled with pus made up of white blood cells, and an infectious bacteria and protein blend called Staphylococcus Aureus. This is why dealing with a boil as quickly as possible is important simply because they can be contagious as well as spread to other areas of your body.

Exactly what leads to boils and Why Do They Form?

There are many causes for boils to form. The main trigger is due to an object below the skin like an ingrown hair, a splinter, or a blocked sweat gland. Boils can also develop from a cut, or break within the skin that later will become infected. Some other reasons for boils result from a staph-related bacterial infection.

Boils generally develop on the buttocks, armpits, and groin area. Occasionally, although not often they can be found on the shoulders, back and face. If left untreated boils may become difficult or painful. They can also turn out to be itchy as well as irritated too.

Natural Natural home remedies For Boils

Now you understand the reason why it’s important to treat a boil immediately – to prevent complications can occur and to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the body. Also, when a boil becomes infected – it is also harder to treat. Nowadays many people are searching for natural home remedies to treat skin signs and symptoms like boils. One great natural remedy is simply to use a garlic juice compress. To make this compress all you will need is one clove of garlic plus a band-aid.

Simply press the liquid from your garlic clove with a garlic presser and apply the juice to the boil. Then protect the boil loosely with a band-aid. Leave this on before head of the boil becomes soft and can be wiped away with a warm clean cloth. Ensure that you examine the boil frequently, since the garlic juice is fairly powerful and in the event that left on the skin too long may burn it. If you feel any kind of distress, remove the band-aid and rinse the area well.

Additional Natural home remedies For Boils – The actual Key To Dealing with Boils

If your garlic juice is too strong for you think about using the spice turmeric extract. Merely blend turmeric extract powder – which can be purchased in any grocery store – along with a small amount of water to create a heavy paste. After that apply the paste and cover loosely with a band-aid. Leave this on until the head of the boil is soft and can be wiped away effortlessly.

Here’s a Shortcut to Dealing with Boils – Simple Boil Remedy

Another easy boil treatment to try if the above treatments don’t work or even if you are at risk of boils would be to treat the boil from the inside with a homeopathic spray. Three oral sprays under the tongue is all you need to get rid of boils once and for all. There aren’t any messy creams, lotions, or compresses to deal with. This homeopathic spray functions from the within to help heal existing boils and help prevent the event of future boils. Lots of people get relief within as little as 24-48 hours.

Strategies for Preventing Acne

February 11th, 2010 Gail Jones No comments

Most sufferers of acne attempt to cure their broken skin with astringent creams, fruit washes, special soaps, lotions and treatments. However, the easiest way to cure acne is by altering your diet and shunning acne-producing things like fried food. A healthy regimen, comprising natural unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, grains and beans is the first bit of advice for curing acne.

Foodstuffs containing trans-fatty acids, chocolate, milk, milk products, margarine, shortening and man-made hydrogenated vegetable oils, as well as fatty foods, should consumed. It seems that the high occurrence of acne in the USA is caused by the typical American diet. Americans usually eat fried food in large quantities and usually cook it in the worst possible fats and oils.

However, not all fats are bad for you, but the fats and oils that the typical American consumes make them more prone to develop acne and other skin problems. Products that can cause are ice cream, cheese, bacon, chocolate and milk. Furthermore, acne can’t really be cured using external skin creams and expensive soaps because the basic cause of the problem exists underneath the skin.

Pimples, spots and blemishes are produced by bacteria and other irritants lying below the skin’s oil glands and hair follicles, which are generally caused by improper hygiene, scratching and poor diet.

This poor diet could be a result of too high a proportion of items like processed, fatty, fried and sugary foods in your diet. A diet that is healthy for your skin must consist of raw and lightly cooked vegetables, especially green, leafy vegetables that contain valuable trace minerals and fibre. Fresh green vegetables are essential, but you should also include lean protein sources and complex carbohydrates, such as rice, whole-grain bread and potatoes in your diet.

These fibre-rich foods will help ensure a clean gastrointestinal tract, which is especially important in the management of acne. You should eat three healthy meals a day in order to supply you with sufficient important nutrients and lower your desire for sweet or/and fatty, fried food.

Moreover, you should consume lots more food that is rich in vitamin A, such as apricots, watermelons, and broccoli, as well as lean beef, nuts, beans and whole grains, because they are rich in zinc, which is also be helpful in preventing acne breakouts. It is also important to drink lots of water to help clean out of the body all the toxins that encourage the development of acne.

Pregnant Women And Acne

January 18th, 2010 Gail Jones No comments

The treatment of acne is usually the right move, if you have it, but not always. There are stages in a person’s life when you can not treat acne, just because you’d like to and, unfortunately, pregnancy is one of those times. Everyone knows, that this is a tricky part in a woman’s life and that therefore she must take extra care of herself. If a pregnant woman wants to try to cure her acne, she must see to it that she arms herself with the right information.

This must also be borne in mind by those women who might get pregnant. The following are some cures for acne that are not good for use during pregnancy because they may be harmful to the fetus:

Hormonal Treatment which can contain estrogen, flutamide or spirolactone. They are definitely not allowed, because they are harmful and could lead to issues for both the mother and her child. It is best regard it as a threat.

Isotretinoin is another one that would put a pregnant woman’s life in danger. It has negative effects as well especially for pregnant women and those that are breast-feeding. It could cause severe health hazards in both the mother and her fetus inside her womb. It is advised that a woman in the process of taking Isotretinoin should be monitored by a doctor. Those who are trying to become pregnant must avoid the use of Isotretinoin, because it could trigger negative issues not only for mother but most especially for the child.

Oral tetracyclines, which could be made up of doxycycline, tetracycline and minocycline, must not be an option at all, because it would not do you any good. It has been shown that pregnant women or those who are breast-feeding must refuse the use of this drug because it may produce side effects that could be nothing short of a danger to the life of you and your child. However, the most common side effect is the permanent discoloration of your teeth or / and bone issues.

Topical retinoids, like as tazarotene, adapalene and tretinoin, is another group that must be totally avoided. Just like the afore-mentioned treatments, topical retinoids could be a danger to you and your baby. No matter whether you are pregnant or not, it is just not wise to use any of the treatments mentioned above.

For certain, those women, who are pregnant and have acne, really have to stay away from the heavy drugs mentioned here. Instead, why not settle for more traditional remedies, such as tying your hair up off your face, washing your face three or four times a day, changing your pillow slips every day, consuming more fresh fruit and avoiding fatty, oily and spicy food?

Acne Skin Problems

January 10th, 2010 Gail Jones No comments

Acne is one of the commonest skin problems to afflict mankind and it it can be present in all people irrespective of age, caste, colour or gender. Acne is an extremely embarrassing and burdensome disease, because it is so noticeable and unsightly. Acne can be described as red eruptions on the skin, sometimes filled with a white puss, causing discomfort and irritation. The most usual type of acne is called acne vulgaris or puberty spots.

Acne vulgaris can be defined as: an inflammatory disease of the skin, caused by changes in the pilosebaceous units (skin structures consisting of a hair follicle and its associated sebaceous gland) . Acne lesions are commonly referred to as pimples, spots or zits – [source: Wikipedia]. It is a problem over which we do not have complete control. There are different ways to treat acne; one can go for medication from a skin specialist or one can also try home or natural remedies.

Natural treatments are less time consuming, less expensive and have no side effects. However, they do require a little more patience, because certain routines have to be followed diligently in order to cure the problem once and for all. A natural cure for acne is just as effective as medication. Here are a few natural remedies to cure your acne. To start with, your daily consumption of water should be a minimum of eight to ten glasses. This helps you to detoxify your system and kill the harmful bacteria that cause acne.

An over-balance of oily food also leads to acne, therefore fried, oily and spicy food should be religiously avoided. A near complete abstinence of fried and fatty food will have a notable, beneficial effect on any acne outbreak. Moreover, if you eat more chromium and zinc in your diet, it will help to eradicate acne. There needs to be the correct balance of diet and hygiene.

A mixture of ground nutmeg with unboiled milk regularly applied on the afflicted area also helps to eradicate acne. Cinnamon powder mixed with honey is just as effective in treating. Boiled Neem tree leaves applied to acne acts as a disinfectant. [Neem is a tall, usually evergreen East Indian tree (Azadirachta indica) widely cultivated in tropical Asia for its timber, resin, bitter bark, and aromatic seed oil, which is used medicinally and as an insecticide (source = 'Free Online Dictionary')].

The afflicted area should be washed with anti-acne soap at least three or four times a day. Make-up must be strictly avoided when suffering from acne. Make-up makes acne worse. Acne should never be squeezed as it may cause infection or / and make it worse. Squeezing your acne can also lead to permanent marks on your skin, which leaves your skin looking unsightly. Don’t let your hair touch the acne-affected area too.

Your hair ought to be kept pulled back to avoid touching the acne. Pillow covers should be washed on a daily basis to avoid the germ spreading. The regular cleansing of your skin should be observed to keep it free from bacteria. Apart from this, a healthy lifestyle should be followed with a proper, balanced diet, exercise and sleep. Remember if you take proper care of yourself, ailments will have trouble afflicting you, especially a small thing like as acne!

Oily Skin Care Tips And Advice

November 28th, 2009 Suzi Sorenson No comments

Whilst many skin care ranges offer alternatives depending on your skin type, it is often the case that there isn to alot of difference between the formulas for oily skin, dry skin and combination skin alterntives.

The hormonal changes that occur in our bodies as we reach puberty mean that it is very common to have an oily skin type at this age. Generally, for most of us, our skin tends to dry out as we get older as the production of sebum oil reaches a high during adolescence and slowly decreases with age, this may be an advantage for those of us who suffer with an oily skin type. Hormonal imbalances during the menopause and pregnancy means that some women may experience an increase in the level of sebum oil produced at this time.

Many people have skin that is oily in certain regions of the face, generally the facial area we refer to as the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), and dry or normal in others. This skin type is generally referred to as combination skin.

Before you apply your foundation for oily skin, it is a good idea to use an antiseptic day cream with active ingredients that diminish sebaceous secretions. Benzyl peroxide is an effective agent for this so look out for oily skin care products that include this in their list of active ingredients.

Use an antiseptic day cream before applying makeup and use a foundation for oily skin. Look for those oily skin care products that have active ingredients such as benzyl peroxide that help reduce sebaceous secretions.

Cleansing Oily Skin Although it may seem like a counter-productive measure to clean oily skin with oil-based products, they do actually prove to be quite effective in ridding the skin of excess sebum. You should avoid cleansing creams since these tend to be too harsh, instead choose a pure soap with no artificial additives, or try a lightly medicated soap or antibacterial cleansing lotion.

As part of your oily skin care routine, wash oily skin gently in warm water and avoid products that leave the skin feeling overly dry since this can result in a reaction known as reactive seborrhoea, where the sebaceous glands increase oil production in response to the reduction in the level of oil. Alcohol-based products since be avoided since they can take away too much oil and you should reduce the number of times you wash daily since this can cause reactive seborrhoea. Products that dry the skin out too much sometimes cause the upper layers of the skin to shrink, restricting oil flow through the pores which can exacerbate pore blockage.

Oily skin treatment When cleansing, massage your face with your fingertips, using an outward and upward motion, and take care not to rub soap into the skin since this can increase the risk of clogging. If your skin is also scaly as well as oily, then you might want to try a deep-cleaning exfolient a couple of times a week. Choose an oil-free moisturizer for a shine-free complexion.

A facial sauna using lemongrass, licorice root, and rosebuds is good for oily skin. Two or three times a week, simmer a total of 2 to 4 tablespoons of dried or fresh herbs in 2 quarts of water. When the pot is steaming, place it on top of a trivet or thick potholder on a table, and sit with your face at a comfortable distance over the steam for fifteen minutes. You can use a towel to trap the steam if you wish. After fifteen minutes, splash your face with cold water and allow your skin to air dry or pat it dry with a towel. After the sauna, you can allow the herbal water to cool and save it for use as a toning lotion to be dabbed on your face with a cot- ton ball after cleansing.

Looking For A Nutrition Tea That Will Transform Your Life For The Better?

November 26th, 2009 Aoife Joyce No comments

Have you heard that Green Tea as a nutrition tea is hugely beneficial to your overall health? If so, do you know exactly why? After reading this, you will know all its major benefits and you may find it is the perfect tea for you!

Green Tea along with Oolong Tea and Black Tea, originated in China over 4,000 years ago, and has been used daily since then to improve and maintain overall health. It is only in recent years however that their nutritional properties and their effects on health as a whole have become known worldwide. There has been a huge amount of studies done all over the world to find out exactly how good Green Tea is for you, and the general consensus is that it sustains and improves general health and life span.

The core component in Green Tea that has given it its ‘miracle tea’ superiority are catechin polyphenols, distinctively epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). They are however more commonly known to most of us as antioxidants. What differentiates Green Tea as a nutrition tea from Oolong and Black Tea, is that during production Green Tea leaves are steamed, thus preventing the potent EGCG’s from oxidization. However, fermentation is used with Oolong and Black Tea leaves, which converts EGCG’s into other compounds. This fact gives Green Tea its prominence over all other teas.

With 27% catechin polyphenols found in Green Tea, this makes it 100 times more beneficial to you than Vitamin C and 25 times more beneficial than Vitamin E. That is already just one major reason to convert to Green Tea!

Three Essential Health Benefits Of Green Tea You Did Not Know, Before Now… 1.Powerful as it is, EGCG effectively destroys cancer cells, at ALL stages of the illness! This is due to its ability to inhibit tumours from developing, eliminate tumour supporters, hinder chemical carcinogens and neutralize enzymes that yield cell construction. 2.In addition, these outstanding antioxidants lower LDL cholesterol concentrations in the blood, by affixing to the cholesterol droplets preventing them from becoming set to, for instance, the arteries linings. Furthermore, they deter blood clot development (Thrombosis), which in turn warrants prevention of strokes and heart attacks. 3.Electrons that are in an ‘unpaired’ state are called Free Radicals. Certain amounts are produced in the body naturally. Attributable to their ‘free’ state they are capable of harming cell membranes and as a result internal structures, allowing growth of cardiovascular diseases, cancer and also have the capacity of injuring DNA. In saying that, in frank terms, EGCG (antioxidants) has the remarkable ability of destroying Free Radicals!

After soaking up the main benefits above, you may now understand why for over 4,000 years Green Tea has been consumed as a nutrition tea for healing purposes with general well being, in countries throughout the Far East. After learning of how advantageous Green Tea can be to you, you may be prone to assuming that it will fail to bring a desired aroma, however differing from this, it actually delivers an exceptional zest and is wonderfully light and invigorating as compared with standard coffees and teas!

The Successful Treatment of Acne

November 1st, 2009 Rose Williams No comments

Acne is nasty. However, it’s not something that cannot be dealt with. There are loads of acne skin care items around. We can pigeonhole acne skin care products into 3 broad categories:

* Preventive or all-purpose acne skin care items; * Over-the-counter, specialised acne skin care products; * Prescription acne skin care products.

The general acne skin care products are the ones that are used as an acne-prevention measure. These include cleansers, make-up removers and similar items that help prevent acne. In the real sense, these acne skin care products are those that should be part of your daily schedule anyway. However, some of these are more orientated to work like an everyday acne skin care product.

These acne skin care products act against the reasons for acne e.g. limiting the production of sebum/oil and avoiding the clogging of skin pores. Essentially, these acne skin care items inhibit the oil from becoming blocked in the skin and consequently hamper the escalation of the bacteria that lead to acne. General acne skin care items also take in exfoliation products like skin peels. These work by exfoliating dead skin cells, hence reducing the possibility of pore-blocking and bacteria development.

Then there are specialised acne skin care products that are available over-the-counter i.e. without the requirement of a prescription. These include products like vanishing creams which remove the extra oil from the skin. Most of these acne skin care items are based on benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, both of which are the enemies of bacteria (and therefore acne). You should start with a product that has a lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide (e.g. 5%) and see how your skin reacts to it.

Alpha-hydroxy-acid based moisturizers are also common as acne skin care products. You may have to test a few, before you discover the acne skin care product that is most effective for you. If nothing seems to do any good, you should get in touch with a dermatologist.

Prescription acne skin care items are the ones that are prescribed by a dermatologist. These include ointments that can be applied on the affected area or oral antibiotics or just any topical medication. A dermatologist may also suggest a minor surgical process to do away with the contents of pustules. However, never try to squeeze or do this by yourself, as it can lead to the permanent damage of your skin.

Your doctor could also prescribe a hormone-based treatment (since hormonal changes are also known to cause acne). Such acne skin care items are known to be very effective in some cases. So, with all those acne skin care items, combatting acne is really not all that arduous.
